Designed by Ellis Maples in 1961, Pinehurst No. 5 is a scenic and strategic course that embraces the natural beauty of the North Carolina Sandhills. Known for its variety and playability, the course features rolling terrain, challenging greens, and more water hazards than any other course at Pinehurst. Its signature hole—the par-3 14th, nicknamed the “Cathedral Hole”—is framed by a pond and towering pines that resemble a pipe organ. With a mix of uphill and downhill holes, doglegs, and picturesque views, No. 5 offers an enjoyable and memorable round for golfers of all skill levels.
